Getting Into PolyTrack

PolyTrack is a racing game from Kodub, released in August 2024. It runs in a browser and keeps the idea simple: get the car from start to finish as quickly as possible. Anyone familiar with TrackMania will recognize the focus on time, although PolyTrack has its own stripped-back low-poly look.

The first run is usually messy. A corner comes sooner than expected, a jump sends the car sideways, and suddenly the clock looks terrible. Restart, try again, and the same track begins to feel different.

Where Seconds Disappear

A Fast Car Is Not Enough

Holding the accelerator works on the straights. Corners are another story.

Going into a bend too quickly can push the car wide. Brake too much and it takes time to regain speed. The useful line is often somewhere between those two mistakes.

Jumps can ruin a good attempt too. Landing straight matters more than staying in the air for as long as possible. After a few retries, it becomes easier to tell which ramps need full speed and which ones need a calmer approach.

Make a Track of Your Own

The track builder gives racing a break. Turns, ramps, and other pieces can be arranged into a custom course.

It is also a good way to understand why some sections are difficult. Build a sharp corner after a fast straight and the problem becomes obvious before the car even reaches it.

Controls

  • Drive forward: W / Up Arrow
  • Brake or reverse: S / Down Arrow
  • Turn left: A / Left Arrow
  • Turn right: D / Right Arrow
  • Start over: R

Before Chasing a Record

Don't try to fix an entire lap at once. Pick the corner that keeps causing trouble and change one thing on the next attempt. Brake a little earlier. Enter from another side. Take less air over a ramp.

That small trial-and-error loop is where Poly Track gets interesting. Finishing is easy enough. Putting together a run with no wasted movement takes much longer.
