Initially, I thought Retro Sports Champion was just a typical pixel sports game. The kind you open, play for a few minutes, and then close. But after trying the first running section, I played for quite a while longer because I wanted to surpass my previous score.
The game is divided into many different disciplines, so it's not monotonous. Some levels require continuous tapping to increase speed, while others require precise timing to score high points. It looks simple, but a mistake in your tapping will lead to a loss.
I found the 100m race the most frustrating. Sometimes you're leading, but a few missteps can cause you to be overtaken right before the finish line.
Retro Sports Champion doesn't use many buttons, so you can play right away.
The running sections require quite fast tapping. If you can maintain a consistent tapping rhythm, the character will run much more smoothly.
This game doesn't try to be overly complicated. The pixel graphics look like old games from the past, but they suit the fast-paced gameplay. Each match is short, so it's not tiring to play.
Additionally, there are many hilarious failed matches. The character falling or losing balance makes the game less stressful than more serious sports games.
Retro Sports Champion is suitable for those who like light, fast-paced arcade games. It doesn't require extensive grinding or memorizing too many buttons, yet it's engaging enough to play repeatedly.
